Gala Style

Last night I attended the annual gala for the organization I work for.  I love getting dressed up for special occasions and thought I'd share my outfit choice for the evening. I've owned these peacock earrings for several years and haven't had the chance to wear them much so I decided to create the outfit around them.  Oh and the dress...I bought several years ago on clearance for $15!

I had to take a pic of these two lovely ladies looking fabulous!

Gingham

Gingham is a print like polka dots...it never goes out of style.  I've had my black and white gingham shirt for years and I love how versatile it is.  This spring J. Crew is carrying neon gingham shirts.  If only I weren't on a clothing fast :(  I would buy one in every color.

In Transition

Spring is officially here but the weather has been less than desirable the past few days.  Since it's been rather chilly I've mixed some spring/winter pieces.  Today I wore a light cotton skirt with a cardigan and boots. I'm so ready to put away my sweaters, boots, etc. in exchange for sundresses and sandals but in the meantime I'll filter in some springy style in hopes that warmer temperatures are on the way.

Here are a few outtakes

NYC Style

I had the privilege this weekend of attending a style workshop hosted by the fashion guru herself, Stacy London.  I loved every minute of it.  New York City style is so refreshing to me because it's different and can be seen in abundance.  Generally the rule of thumb in NYC is "anything goes". I took some photos on my phone of the various street style's I encountered.  Some were fabulous others were...  I'll let you make your own assessments.

Those heels were remarkable. I'm just wondering how far she could actually walk in them.

Super chic on the subway. I loved her coat.

My good friend Christy's style. She wears Doc Martens everyday b/c they're comfortable and durable.

I'm not sure...

Of course I loved this outfit.

Polka Dots

I'm on the road this week with work and thus having to update my blog posts via my iPhone. That being said I can only use one photo at a time for each post so I used an app to create a montage. Thank goodness there's an app for almost everything.

Today I wore a polka dot cardigan with an orangey/coraly belt. What can I say about polka dots? They're wonderful. And they never go out of style.

Meet Jenny

Yesterday my mom saw our friend Jenny looking fabulous at her 9-5 job and asked if she could take a picture for the blog.  When I asked Jenny about her look I thought she gave some great insight.  In her words: "the tops were new, I think I was Banana Republic head to toe.  Saw the shirt, and normally would have been something I passed right by, but put my trust in the company that some things may be more versatile than they appear on the hanger. And in the fitting room I found that to be true!"  Word of advice: ALWAYS try something on before ruling it out completely.  Keep up the great work Jenny!

Belt It

Accessories can make or break an outfit.  A belt, necklace, purse etc. can complete your entire look.  One trend that has been ongoing is belting a cardigan, and not just cardigans but dresses, jackets, pants etc.  Wearing a belt can tie your outfit together while accentuating your waist.  Find which style (skinny, wide) works best for you and start belting it.

Geaux Saints

I know it's almost spring and trust me I am more than ready for warmer temperatures, but I'm also counting down the days until football season starts.  Today's outfit was inspired by one of my favorite teams, the New Orleans Saints.  Here's to black and gold!

Professionally Pink

Pink is the epitome of femininity and is one of my favorite colors.  Just seeing it makes me smile.  I know... I'm such a girl.  One of my favorite articles of clothing I own is a pink jacket from Forever 21.  It's professional and feminine and goes with so much in my closet.  Below I've also posted some inspiring and work appropriate outfits that I love.

Layering

In my weekend post this weekend I talked briefly about J. Crew being the masters of layering clothes.  The art of layering can be tricky but lots of fun.  Play around with different pieces in your closet and don't be afraid to mix patterns, textures and solids.  Below are some examples from J. Crew.

I paired my denim shirt with black sweater and skirt to give this 9-5 look a more casual feel.

Style Icon: Jenna Lyons

One of my favorite modern day style icons is Jenna Lyons, President and Executive Creative Director for J. Crew.  She has impeccable taste and has mastered the art of mixing colors, patterns and layering. I am always inspired every time I open my glossy J. Crew catalog or when walking past their window displays. A few of Jenna's staple pieces are jeans, button up shirt and blazer or fitted jacket.  She was my inspiration for this weekend's style.
