Style Icon: Jenna Lyons

One of my favorite modern day style icons is Jenna Lyons, President and Executive Creative Director for J. Crew.  She has impeccable taste and has mastered the art of mixing colors, patterns and layering. I am always inspired every time I open my glossy J. Crew catalog or when walking past their window displays. A few of Jenna's staple pieces are jeans, button up shirt and blazer or fitted jacket.  She was my inspiration for this weekend's style.

Leg Warmers

I'll admit I have an affection for any type of clothing that reminds me of ballet, leg warmers being one of them.  I would have loved to have been a prima ballerina, but I never had the determination or will power to stick with it. In any case...
It has been freezing in my office lately so I decided to create a work appropriate outfit to wear my leg warmers.  Depending on the type of office you work in this may or may not be acceptable.  I would never wear these to a meeting or when I'm out speaking but today leg warmers seemed appropriate for the gloomy weather.

Colorblocking

One trend that was seen all over the runways this past fall was colorblocking.  To achieve this look you need to wear contrasting but complimentary colors.  Is this trend work appropriate? Absolutely!  The key again is to keep your outfit fairly conservative.  As much as I love neon pink I would more than likely not wear it to work. The inspiration for today's outfit came from my bottle of Marc Jacobs Lola.  Inspiration can be found anywhere!

Kelly Green

Kelly green is such a happy color. I love mixing it with black and white for a bold touch of color.  Below are some inspiring images of this mix of colors.

Weekend Style-Retro

Today I was feeling a little inspired by the look of the 70's.  When I think of 70's fashion I typically think of Deborah Harry...probably because there's an inner rocker-chick that's inside of me dying to come out.  Too bad I can't play the guitar.  Maybe one day...

I love the combination of these two colors. Coral and citron are two looks you will see a lot of this spring.

Moi

Tonight I donned my red lipstick and fur trimmed trench coat.

Lovely Couple

Tonight I saw this wonderfully dressed couple and I asked the woman (Beatrix) if I could take a picture of her fabulous shoes.  The shoes were deep purple and had to have been vintage.  Beatrix was very beautiful and her style was so unique.

Classic Chanel

Any time I wear a black and white ensemble with pearls I immediately think of Chanel. Coco Chanel was a major influence in women's fashion in the early 20th century.  Today Chanel continues to be a powerhouse among luxury brands in large part to designer mastermind Karl Lagerfeld.  Here are some Chanel looks I love.

As I've mentioned before, black and white is my favorite color combination.  Why? Because it's chic, timeless and can be paired with any accent color.   Today I paired a black and off-white coat with black skirt, lace top and pearls.
